Your application is reviewed by the Secretary of State for acceptance or denial of the commission. Some reasons for refusal, revocation or suspension of a notary commission include the following:
- Substantial and material misstatement or admission in the application. Denial will be recommended for the failure to disclose any arrest or conviction! You must disclose all arrests and convictions on your application including any convictions which had later been dismissed. Call the Secretary of State, Notary Department if you have any questions about whether or not a particular incident on your record must be disclosed. - Conviction of a felony.
- Conviction of a disqualifying misdemeanor where less than 10 years has passed since the completion of probation.
